Stewed Squid with Honey (蜜汁炖鱿鱼) Weibo Random Scene #5 and Go Go Squid! Official Cast Announcement

Such an exciting week this is. Yes, today is Valentine’s Day, but did anyone else remember that it’s God Gun’s birthday? So, how about saying hi to him on his bday. And also, on Gun’s birthday, we get to find out who will be playing Gun and Tong Nian in the drama adaptation. Excited?

Stewed Squid with Honey Weibo Random Scenes

I just recently dug these up. They are actually two very old scenes, posted on Weibo in January 2015 while the story was still being released in instalments online. Hence, they were written before the epilogue and may not really jive with what’s said there. Take it as just for fun.

1.  Mo Bao Fei Bao: I feel Con Man’s “action” scene could be like this:

Gun: “Come here.”
Little Squidie hops and skips her way over. “Uh-huh, uh-huh.”
Gun: “Where are those eared long sock things?”
Little Squidie: “Huh huh? Oh, oh.”
Rummages through her dressers and drawers, puts them on, and then once more, like a good girl, runs back over to him…
(Fill in remainder with your own imagination.)

2. Mo Bao Fei Bao: Con Man’s second time could be like this:

Gun: “Come here.”
Little Squidie bashfully runs over. *covers her face* “I’m wearing them today…”
Gun: “Why is it still this pair? You don’t have any others with ears?”
Little Squidie: “Huh huh? Oh, oh. I do, I do.”
Rummages through her dressers and drawers, puts them on, and then once more, bashfully runs back over to him…
(Fill in remainder with your own imagination.)

Mo Bao Fei Bao: Next time, we’ll “play” something different…

Go Go Squid! Official Cast Announcement and Sneak-A-…Listen

As promised, I’m letting you know about any news that I hear of regarding Squid‘s drama adaptation. For those of you who missed the news, yes, Stewed Squid with Honey is being adapted, and the screenwriter is the author herself, Mo Bao Fei Bao. As mentioned before, the official name of the drama is going to be Go Go Squid! Here’s the poster again if you missed it last time.

There have been lots of rumours floating around about who will be playing the leads for this drama adaptation, but they were truly only rumours. Yesterday, though, was Mo Bao Fei Bao’s birthday, and so, the official Weibo of the drama adaptation released this sound clip of the voices of Tong Nian and Gun in celebration.

(If you’re having troubles with the link below, I was unable to play this from my phone as it wanted me to download the app, but I was able to open it from my computer.)

Tong Nian: Meow. This is Little Squidie. Thanks, everyone, for watching out for me.
Gun: This kid belongs to me. I’ll be responsible [for him].

(Recognize these lines? They’re from chapter 4 of the novel. The “him” is implied because at the time when they were gaming, everyone thought Tong Nian was a little boy.)

Also, once midnight struck and it was official February 14, novel and MBFB fans were posting happy birthday wishes to God Gun in Weibo, to which our drama Gun posted an audio response.

Gun: Mm, got all the birthday wishes. I have stored them away into my heart. Later today, I’ll take my kid who belongs to me to go celebrate today’s holiday. Starting training now. Don’t reply.

(Recognize the last two sentences? Hint: check out chapter 38.)

If it were up to me, I’d have no idea, but fans are amazing and from listening, they were already speculating (with great certainty) that Tong Nian will be played by Andy Yang Zi and Han Shangyan (our God Gun) will be played by Li Xian.

Then today (literally an hour before this post was published), the official announcement was made that confirmed netizen’s speculations: yes, Andy Yang Zi will be playing Tong Nian, and Li Xian is God Gun. Below is Mo Bao Fei Bao’s forward of the announcement and her words: Tong Nian @YangZi, Han Shangyan @LiXing-ing, welcome to my world.

Still no word on the rest of the casting yet. Will continue to keep you all informed. 🙂

I’m nervous, as I always am when my favourites are being adapted to screen, but as always, I will remain optimistically open-minded. Yang Zi physically does not necessarily fit my image of the well-endowed Tong Nian (ahem, remember, Her Squidie Highness has, as Blueberry said, “looooooooong legs,” “shapely, voluptuous beauty,” and “Loli face and big boobs”), but Yang Zi is known for her good acting abilities. I haven’t watched Li Xian in anything, but from first glance, he at least has the height suitable for Han Shangyan. All judgment will be reserved until the drama airs. 🙂

Any of these call out “Tong Nian” to you?

Okay, everyone remember Gun likes to walk around without a shirt and jeans not buttoned. There was one scene, also in chapter 4, where he had just come out of the shower with only a pair of unbuttoned jeans and and his hair was still dripping water droplets down his chest. Or remember the scene in chapter 44, when Gun says to Tong Nian, “But I need to shower first? What should we do? Would you like to watch me shower? I could wear some necessary items if… you really want to watch?” Hahahahaha. Or when Tong Nian runs to find Gun in chapter 47, only to see him with just a towel around his waist . (Oh man, I forgot what a nosebleed-inducing man Gun is. *runs to grab tissue*) Does the pic on the right of Li Xian possibly remind you of those? Good enough for God Gun? How about the pic on the left? Evoke any feelings of  “In these past two years and three months, I have won, and I have lost; I have laughed, and I have cried; I have been called into question; I have been the subject of rumours; I have been criticized; and I have been falsely accused. Never have I defended myself. There is no need to defend myself. Tonight, the glorious banquet has at last come to its end. Achievements and fame are but follies in my eyes” (chapter 28)?

So, thoughts?

  1. My thoughts
    😏😍😍😍😍🎉🎉🎉

  2. Thank you for the updates. Have no clue who the actors are haha
Do you know when the drama will be shown? Can we assume the drama is being filmed at the moment?

    • Hahaha. Well, then you can get to know them in the drama.

Casting was just announced, so no, filming had not commenced. The last I heard was that filming will begin in March, but that is not confirmed publicly, just rumoured. Therefore, no idea yet when this will be aired. Will continue to keep you all posted with what I know (from a novel fan’s perspective). 😉

  3. So excited! I had no idea they were filming this! Thank you!

  4. Pretty satisfied with the actress however I prefer Han Shangyan to be played by other older actor to suit the character. I think the actor looks too young

  5. I agree with you on the female lead is really not the same as the character but I’m excited I love this cute story.

  6. I really really like Li Xian. He was phenomenal in Tientsin Mystic, in my opinion.

  7. Woooww..Andy? I like her since I watched “Battle of Changsha”. Her acting was great!

  8. Omg.. Omg.. This is really happening.. And apt timing for the post too.. <3<3<3<3<3

  9. I always imagine TongNian is much younger than God Gun…. but this actress looks not that much younger and nor with lolly-face.

So 😊 this year have 2 great dramas coming 😊😊😊 can’t wait for Our Glamorous Time (你和我的倾城时光) and Go Go Squid (蜜汁炖鱿鱼).

  10. Lovely! that will be a treat to have. Thank you for this update, Hoju!
Here’s wishing you Gong Hai Fat Choy .
I will see you again after Saturday. Have a blessed new year!

  11. By the way, I love the new look of Fanatical. What a treat to have these books on one’s own shelf. 🙂

  12. I was really excited when Wu Qian was rumoured to play Tong Nian cause I can really see her acting the role well. Though I’m not dismissing Yang Zi’s acting skills either, just I imagined the former can act it out better. Yang Zi is used to all the cute sweet ditzy roles so maybe it’d turn out great, who knows. Li Xian was amazing in Medical Examiner and Tientsin Mystic. I can’t imagine anyone playing the role of Gun actually haha so I shall reserve my judgement later.
This book’s fans are probably ecstatic to have this one adapted…when will Really Really Miss You… T.T

  13. I’m excited for YangZi, since she’s also going to play JinMi in Heavy Sweetness Ash-like Frost. I’ve watched her in Ode to Joy and I think she matches the clumsy-ish cute part but not sure if its Loli enough lol not sure for the guy though

  14. Soooo happy … really love this story, can’t get enough of them both, soo cute, sweet light novel 😊

  15. Love multiplied by millions!!! Thank you!

  16. I hope the author includes the nosebleeding scenes of gun in the adaption xD

  17. Wow…. I definitely gonna watched it!!!! 😍😍😍😍💗💗💗💗💗💗

Thanks for translating this wonderful novel. I already save this on my NU list last year but decided to read this now (due to my increasing likes towards novels with gaming theme). I also love the novel A slight smile is very alluring ( I watched the movie first, Love 020) and will watch the drama series.

Thank you very much again. Hope to have news about the drama, Go go Squid! 😍👌💗💗💗💗
