Fangirling Chinese Novels

Adapting Novels to Dramas/Movies

I know I posted this feature twice before but I’ve since modified and expanded it so the information is very current. I don’t like to make lots of posts:P I also have changed one of the cover picture so can you spot which one lol? Okay, now I’ve changed another cover picture because bongsd asked me to change Xiao Xiao’s clothes, LOL.

I am going to jump on the bandwagon and give you a preview of what up and coming c-dramas you can expect appearing on your screen soon. However my focus will primarily be on Chinese novels that have or will be adapted into dramas. They are sitting on quite some finished stock. In the meantime, some books are in the process of being filmed while some book copyrights have been sold. If you are interested in the stories, there are links to the book bar or external sources. If there is a trailer or any video, the link is in bracket. This post will be constantly updated with the latest information.

50 Most Influential Chinese Romance Internet Novels

I am back, anyone miss me, lol? I could have posted this earlier but was waiting for Lidge’s comments. I think because she has been reading Gu Man’s latest book so she is slow like a tortise, haha…I am following up on my top 35 Guys with 50 Influential Novels. There is a bit of overlap. I don’t really agree with some of their rankings or inclusion but to each its own. I have not read a fair bit of them especially the ancient novels but Lidge is worse than me, haha. Okay, all shall be unveiled now………….

[Hui3r – Just came back from a long hiatus, so hijacked this post for a bit to add in my two cents. peanuts recced me some books she wont touch with a 10 foot pole for various reasons, but I dutifully finished. x____x]

75 Most Popular Chinese Romance Internet Novels

Officially Feb 12, 2014 is the blog’s 1 year anniversary. However, I posted my first article on Feb 17 so I’ll consider that day as the anniversary. Hui3r aka Jessy was the one who set up the blog and did most of the writings initially. I never intended to do much except as a guest writer once in a blue moon. Like the plot of a promising novel that trainwreck, I ended up blogging all alone now. Sob, sob, such sad fate:( Thus, thank you to the support of my readers to keep me going. Oh, what a coincidence this is my 100th post. I can’t believe that I’ve been so hard-working. No wonder I am exhausted:P

As a present, I am posting something akin to the bestseller of this blog, the 50 Most Influential Chinese Romance Internet Novels. The ranking should be taken with a grain of salt as I am not sure of the sampling involved. Also, different people has different taste so you may not agree with the ranking or your favourite book didn’t even make it to the list. You should utilise the comment function here to voice your disagreement, or agreement. I’ve included the genre, A = Ancient or M = Modern and whether it has HE = Happy Ending, OE = Open Ending or BE = Bad Ending to help you pick your novels.

How Your Favourite Novelists Look Like? – Part 1

Have you ever wondered how your favourite Chinese novelists look like? I have decided to become a private detective like Sherlock Holmes for a few days to research and dig out their photos for you. I have tried my best but I cannot guarantee all those pictures are real. Some authors have many pictures available online and I have chosen those which look the most natural and clear. Curiosity kills the cat so you’ve been warned:P

Do your favourite authors look like your imaginations? Are you shocked or surprised by their photos? There are more to come so stay tune for Part 2 if you are curious to know how Feng Nong who is the author of A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated and Fresh Gor Gor who is the author of Hua Qian Gu plus many others look like.

Chinese Novels Adaptation Manhua (Comic – 小说改编漫画)

Attention: This article will not be updated here anymore but in SSB. Please visit SSB for the ancient and modern manhua updates.

Since I was young, I love to read funny English comic books. I guess there is where I got my sense of humour, lol. Therefore I pay close attention to any novels that have or will have manhua adaptations. Unfortunately, I can’t read Chinese and also cannot use google translate to read to me. Thus, all I can do is look and enjoy the drawings. However, I don’t have much artistic gene in me so my taste in art as well as my comments will be questionable.

Recently, there seems to be a trend to adapt novels into manhua. I feel really excited to see my favourite novels with pictures. For those who can read Chinese and like manhua, you can take a more detailed look here. I’ve only heard of some of the novels and I think all of them are ultra long. I will cover those not on that website as well as those books posted in the bar. I have also included the links to them (the one in brackets are manhua raw links) so if you need further info or possibly translated links, check out the book bar. If I didn’t include a link for English translation, it means there is none. Do bear in mind, not everything in Chinese has been translated into English. Feel free to share your view or leave a comment for those I have left out.

100 Most Attractive Male Characters in Chinese Internet Novels – Part 1

I did 35 Favourite Male Characters before but this is 100 Most Attractive Male Characters:P There is I think 2 overlaps only which are number 92 (no. 35) and number 73 (no. 27). I won’t write anything on books which I’ve not read or know nothing about. In future if I do read them, I’ll edit this post. Please contribute if you’ve read them. This time I’ll include some notable quotes from some books instead of getting Lidge to write some comments since like me, she has not read most of the books. Some are just too lengthy or heavy duty for us. I bet most of you will not be happy with at least one of the ranking. I didn’t compile this list so don’t throw tomatoes at me:P I’ll include the baidu source in part 2. Do stay tune for that because someone you know will be there, hint hint, lol.

Challenge 2: The Most Romantic Scene

First and foremost, I think I have to apologise for the serious case of MIA. Unfortunately, it can’t be helped since my job in Real Life has exploded left right and center; last week, our boss sent an e-mail telling us to “rest well” this weekend because next three weeks is going to be the “choke point”. I think it is more of “you should finish whatever work you can this weekend so that you have hope of going home during the next three weeks.

So Peanuts (and by extension, Lidge :D) will have to hold down the fort here until I can see the light of day again. But I will try to put in at least a monthly appearance with the Monthly Challenges.

Anyway, back to more interesting and entertaining topics, this week we’re going to discuss what we feel are the most romantic scene(s) in C-novels (I know that the challenge is “THE” most romantic scenes, but given that this is our blog and our challenge, we’re playing by our rules – anyway, who will actually complain about getting more than one scene here?) And as a SPECIAL bonus, Peanuts have joined in the game, and added her opinions below.

And if you’re thinking why isn’t it “Most Favourite Male Character this month”, the answer is also the our-blog-our-challenge line/rationale again. We/I will do whatever we fancy, whenever we fancy it instead of being tied down to a schedule. :P. And the surprise keeps things interesting too, no? But if you’re really wondering when the “Most Favourite Male Character” Challenge is going to be posted, it’s tentatively next month. Peanuts has dibs on it (and no, she refuse to disclose who are the finalists. 😦  )
