Glory 1

Surprise lol ! An early Christmas present for you. I won’t reveal the name of the novel or the author’s name so that you can give an objective assessment of the first chapter. For those who know, shhhhhhhh, don’t give the game away 😛 Would you like to read further? Do take part in the poll to convey your level of interest. A word of warning to those who lack patient, this novel is not suitable for you as update of the source novel is still on-going.

A big thank you to hoju for helping me out with all the entertainment industry and internet lingo. Also, wishing all my readers who celebrate this joyous day, an early Merry Christmas.

Chapter 1 (translated by peanuts and edited by hoju)

Media insider, I got a great scoop for you to expose. My senior high school was Z in J city and I was classmate with a very popular current female celebrity, very easy to guess who. In fact, she was simply not pretty in high school. Okay, she cannot be said not pretty, but much worse than now, probably had done plastic surgery. Anyway, she was not the prettiest girl in the class or in the school at that time, it was another beautiful top student. I will abbreviate the female celebrity’s name to Q. She was very vain, behaving like a rich girl all the time. Later, we learned that her dad was merely a tradesman. The whole class was laughing their head off, probably because most of the female students also strongly disliked her.

At that time, there was a godly level student in our key class (from hearsay, Q paid her way into our school and her grades were very poor). The godly level student in my class was certainly number one in the whole school, he was the man of the moment, coming in first in all kinds of competitions. Also, very handsome and very good at basketball as well as football. Just like that kind of male lead widely portrayed in the current idol drama, but I felt that no matter how handsome the TV male star chosen was, he will not be as good as him. After all, the educational level of an actor won’t do and he also lost out on temperament. How to compare with the real thing?

Q confessed her feelings to him, but tragically their exchange was seen by someone. Ha ha, the outcome was that she was mercilessly rejected by the godly level student, saying that he also has his standard on IQ. Later, the godly level student and the beautiful top student were both admitted to Tsinghua University (one of the top university in China) and dated each other, a real golden couple. Q is very popular now but I do not know how she did it hee hee….after all, she lacks talent. Thus media insider, do you dare to publish this?

Qiao Jing Jing dressed in splendid clothes and attended a cake distribution award ceremony (where nearly all the attendees will get an award/a slice of the cake). After the ceremony ended, she got into the artist management company’s car and was slapped in the face by the “bad, dissing piece of press” handed to her by the agent.

“Look here, your senior high school classmate exposed this to the media: “Qiao Jing Jing was humiliated trying to win a boy’s heart” —— Jing Jing why do you have haters even in your high school classmates?

Qiao Jing Jing handed the award to her assistant who followed after her into the car, kicked off her high heels, took the mobile phone and sat on the seat reserve for her. Lowering her head, after glancing three lines, she lost interest and closed the webpage. Instead she searched Weibo for review of her style on the red carpet.

Seeing the response from every major marketing companies was basically positive, more over the fans praising her as a fairy, only then Qiao Jing Jing heaved a sigh of relief and started to feel cheerful.

At least she had not practiced in vain for three months in the gym!

In the first half of this year, she filmed a movie about food and ended up eating too much of the food used as props. She only put on three or four jin (1 jin = 0.5 kg), but a poisonous tongue fashion blogger went so far as to say that she was going to burst the tv screen. Of course, that blogger was ripped apart by her fans. On one hand, Qiao Jing Jing’s spirit went along with her fans to go after that blogger. On the other hand, she had to magnanimously post a Weibo message to express her intention to exercise, exercise, exercise, and lose weight, lose weight, lose weight.

“Post some of my exercise photos after some time. Cannot sweat and exercise in vain, have to show them off la.“

“Okay. Have you read the post that gives the dirty inside scoop on you?” Big sister Ling poked her head forward from the back seat, with a gossipy look.

Qiao Jing Jing gave her a disdainful look and went back to glance through that post again. After finished reading, she scrolled down and the comment section was already in the control of her fans.

Da Qiao I am Zhou Yu ah (Da Qiao Wo Zhou Yu ah): If it is true, then thank you dear for telling everyone that in senior high school, my Qiao was a key class student. By the way, my Qiao’s score was 211, such a bad mark? Impossible (10,260 Likes) (Da Qiao and Zhou Yu are in reference to the historical characters from the Three Kingdoms Period. It’s also a play on Qiao Jing Jing’s surname.)

Qiao Family Courtyard (Qiao Jia Da Yuan): This is a group photo taken by my Qiao as a bridesmaid when she attended her senior high school’s good friend’s wedding. Her good friend posted this on Weibo, so how can you say my Qiao did not have friend in senior high school? Hee, hee you take a look. (Photo.jpg) (9,765 Likes)

Big Qiao Battle Group (Da Qiao Zhan Dui): You hate my idol to death, but in the end there is nothing shady you can expose. My idol is really a good girl. (8,876 Likes)

Tiny Grass (Xiao Cao): I come to watch the action, did you misunderstand what you’ve read from the inside scoop??? (7,689 Likes)

(Feng Yao Yi Wo): I come to watch the action +1. But it turns out my favorite actress gets shot out of nowhere. What? Actresses have eaten all the food in your house or something so that you are just spouting shit? Only you are cultured, have inner quality and went to school before? (5,870 Likes)

Big sister Ling maintained her forward neck posture and gave Qiao Jing Jing a push, “What she wrote is true or false ah?”

“Some truth and falsehood.”

Everyone in the car pricked up their ears.

“It is false to say that I was not pretty as I’ve always been very pretty. Also, he did not reject me so mercilessly, but very courteous.”

Big sister Ling was shocked: “Did you really make a love confession and got rejected?”

“It is natural for me to do so because that guy is really handsome.” Qiao Jing Jing reminisced about her youth for three seconds, “Is this your alternate account?”

“Yes, is that female top student really look better than you?”

After thinking through, big sister Ling still felt it was unbelievable, not that she wanted to brag about her own artistes but Qiao Jing Jing’s appearance and figure can be considered top notch among the female stars in the entertainment industry. From head to toe, one cannot find any obvious flaw. Can there be two such people in a class?

“Of course not!” Qiao Jing Jing was typing away while replying firmly.

“What are you doing?” Big sister Ling’s heart has an ominous foreboding, took a closer look and just happened to see Qiao Jing Jing posting a comment —— this is jealousy through time and space ah! Hope that you are not mad.

Assistant Xiao Zhu laughed out loud and big sister Ling felt helpless: “Take care of business first, quickly post a Weibo message to thank everyone.”

“I’ve already posted one just a moment ago when we were first on the road, didn’t you see it?”

Big sister Ling was at a loss for words as she cannot say that she has been paying attention to gossipy news, but did not pay attention to updates of her own artistes. She quickly picked up another mobile phone, used the office Weibo to forward the post and muttered in a concern voice: “Why don’t let me see before you post it?”

Qiao Jing Jing cannot be bothered with her, took a screenshot of the inside scoop post on her and forwarded it to her own mobile phone. Then she forwarded it to Pei Pei, her desk-mate in the third year of senior high school —— that one who she served as her bridesmaid.

When Pei Pei saw her appearing online, she sent a few exclamation marks first —— !!! Jing Jing, the most popular actress of the year! I just watched tv, congratulations!

Jing Jing: Take a look at the screenshot I just sent you.

After a while.

Pei Pei: WTF, which ** talked nonsense? You obviously have always been good-looking!

Close friend really knew how to focus on the main point, Qiao Jing Jing was very pleased.

Pei Pei: At most, you were just a little out of fashion and lame-looking.

Jing Jing: ……

Pei Pei: But hairstyle and clothes similar to Qiao Jing Jing are everywhere now!

Qiao Jing Jing cannot be bothered to reply and instead said: Who do you think reveal the inside scoop to the media?

Pei Pei: I don’t know, ah. There were a lot of discussions about you in the senior high school class group chat a while ago because your drama was very popular resulting in your increased popularity. Probably, someone is very green with envy?

Qiao Jing Jing also did not expect Pei Pei to be able to guess the culprit, so after casually discussing a few sentences, she put this behind her.

While she was changing out of her evening gown in preparation to rest, Pei Pei sent another message.

Pei Pei: Oh, by the way, some time in the past, I heard Li Ming said Yu Tu and Xia Qing broke up a few years ago when they were in the fourth year of university, so they were only together for a little more than a year.  Do you still remember Li Ming whose family and Yu Tu’s family were living in the same district and know each other? I heard that Yu Tu is also in Shanghai now.

Qiao Jing Jing raised her eyebrows and looked at the long time no see name on the mobile phone.

They actually broke up? During that time, she was in a different university and heard the news about them getting together but ……

Forget it!

Don’t look back at the dark history.

Pei Pei: Hey, do you think Yu Tu will feel regret when he thinks about you?

Jing Jing: Don’t be so naive.

The artist management company’s car moved steadily on the north-south highway. Qiao Jing Jing who was not naïve, winded down the car window and the breeze drifted in. She happily yy (fantasizing) about Yu Tu looking regretful for a long time.

She recalled her love confession in the second year of senior high school. From the very beginning, that person only said sorry but she was full of confident and insisted on knowing the reason. She remembered him saying, “I’m sorry, I want to find someone who can strive hard together with me.”

Why did he think that she would not be able to struggle and strive hard together with him? Anyway, in the end, the person he found, also did not strive hard together with him until the very end.

Qiao Jing Jing started to feel a little better, but the heart still felt a little regretful and some unfathomable feeling.

… Wasn’t her girly’s heart too long-lasting?

Wonder what he was doing now.

But …

She looked out of the window, at the streets passing by, full of bustling cityscape. And she has already become part of the most flourishing part of this bustling world.

She lifted her chin slightly and thought, no matter what he was doing now, he must have been left far behind by her.

“It’s almost ten o’clock, so we’ll stay in Shanghai for the night.” Big sister Ling said, “We’ll leave tomorrow morning and arrive in Hengdian (film studio) in the afternoon. I’ll ask them to move the filming of your part in the drama to the afternoon.”

Qiao Jing Jing regained her concentration, “No, I got ten filming sessions tomorrow, so we’ll go to Hengdian now. I’ll take a nap in the car, just ask the driver to drive a little steadily, I ……”

“Stop!” Big sister Ling hurriedly interrupted her.

Since a certain director praised Qiao Jing Jing to be dedicated to her work and hardworking and she took the opportunity to help her to project a dedicated image, Qiao Jing Jing became an actress with the word dedicated  plastered on her body, her favorite line was …..

“As someone who is dedicated to her work, I cannot collapse.” Qiao Jing Jing staunchly finished saying her favorite line.

“Okay, okay, quickly go to sleep la.” Big sister Ling reluctantly lowered the partition and told the driver to go to Hengdian after all.

Qiao Jing Jing reclined the chair to a fully flat sleeping position and began to sleep. All these years, she has been running all over the place, so she has long mastered the ability to sleep well on any type of transport. However, she did not know why she cannot sleep well today, drowsy, half-asleep and half-awake. She seemed like arriving at a classroom. In the dream, she quickly realized that this was a classroom in her senior high school. In a flash, she was taking an exam and looking at the exam question, asking how many calories in a bunch of strawberries.

This question was too difficult, probably all the students also will not know the answer. Qiao Jing Jing who cannot answer the question, experienced fear of failure. At this moment, suddenly the classroom started to shake with a voice shouting:

“Jing Jing, Jing Jing, do you play King of Glory?”

Translator’s Note: Although the game is officially known as Honor of Kings, the unofficial translation King of Glory is used because of the emphasis on Glory in the novel’s title. The game is called Wang Zhe Rong Yao in Mandarin and the novel is called Ni Shi Wo De Rong Yao.

  1. I like the 1st chapter. You can continue. But I’m scared your hair will turn grey before we get the ending.

    • I agree with you bongsd. I am still waiting for Proud to finish its journey. No criticism meant, Peanuts. Merry Christmas to you all.

      • You misunderstood bongd’s comment but it is ok. Later you’ll find out why she wrote it.

Obviously you like Proud very much and can’t wait to settle down with HZZ & SX 😛 I can promise you that the translation for Proud will be finished in 2018 or else HZZ will apologize to you in person 😛

I am not offended but since you mentioned it, I’ll take this chance to clarify a few things to you as well as other readers of this blog. Thus the comment below is for everyone, not only you. I wanted to address this issue for a while but don’t find it such a big deal to warrant a post by itself.

This blog is merely my hobby, not my bread and butter so it is not high on my priority list. It has no advertisement except by WordPress which is beyond my control and I don’t accept any donation or charge any money. Not to say if you pay me, I’ll speed thing up or accept translation request. I am in this for love of Chinese novels and not money. I only translate novels which I like and is committed to finish them. As for the time frame, it all depends on my real life situation but you definitely has to wait. If you cannot wait then I suggest that you wait until the novel is completely translated before you start reading. If I ever start translating a novel, you can be assured that I’ll finish it. This is why I select my novel carefully and don’t really juggle a few novels at a time.

Then you might wonder why hoju who also does not receive any monetary compensation is able to post consistently and finish translating her novels in a short period of time. Not to say that hoju has a lot of time to kill, as she is rather busy taking care of her family. It is because she is fully committed to her readers and I am only 70& committed. We’ve different characteristics and style. I like to take things slow and easy and is not as organized as hoju who set out a fixed amount of time daily to do her novel translation. Also, my Chinese is nowhere as good as hoju so I take longer to finish translating a chapter.

Google, Bing and many other translation software are available to help in translating, so making many people think that they can easily be a translator even though they don’t know the language. First and foremost, they are merely machine. They can translate a word perfectly but not a sentence as it may have different meaning in different context. In order to properly and accurately translate a novel, it takes a lot of time, effort and dedication. You may take 10 minutes to finish reading a chapter but it may have taken me 10 hours to translate it. You could argue that I am slow and incompetent but you should know that in real life, it also takes a while to produce something of acceptable quality.

Good things come to those who wait so be patient and appreciative.

        • Wow, Peanuts, I truly apologise for causing you to have to explain yourself to us.
Really, I did not mean any criticism. I am very thankful to all you translators out there for bringing us these chinese novels. I got hooked onto Chinese novels reading your translation of Silent Separation. How would I dare to criticise you? I bow my head to you, Peanuts. I love your story choice, blogs, comments and team work with Hoju and others. I respect you guys for taking time out to translate for us illiterates without monetary gain.

Please accept my apology. I truly meant no offence with my comment above. I was just stating my thought.
I really love Proud, I have journeyed with you from the beginning till now. I am willing to finish this journey at your leisure. I am one of your Fanatical big fan!!!

          • Don’t take this comment personally. As I’ve written, this comment is not solely for you. I meant to address this issue for a long time but did not get to it until now when you happened to mention about it. I do have a lot of appreciative readers like you but on the same token I also received some comments which come across as demanding. With the proliferation of paid site, expectation may be higher. If you did pay for something, you’ve the right to expect a certain level of service on a timely manner. Otherwise, you’ve to accept what is given and not leave critical comment. Even though I receive no monetary gain, it is expected that I’ll also do my part in finishing off what I’ve started as soon as possible and within a reasonable time frame, not dropping or hoarding novels.

This is merely a piece of my thought, not a complain or criticism to name or shame anybody. I just want to let everyone know how laborious a proper translation process is so be patient and tolerant of the translators, don’t simply ask translation to be picked up or completed.

Okay, I’ll leave it as it is as I don’t want to repeat myself or harp on about this topic.

        • Dear Peanuts and Hoju

As a fellow translator, I am proud of you and Hoju’s doing.

Yep, we can translate using the google translate now adays, but still I need 8 hours to translate 16 pages documents. It takes time and commitment, not mention it also depends on the good mood to do that.

I am one of your loyal readers. Thanks you for your hard works. Salute!

  2. Please continue… Very interesting, and thank you.

  3. Interesting…. i like the female lead. I’m going to imagine she’s Bing Bing (with my very limited knowledge of her except she’s beautiful, popular, and their names rhyme) so that I’m immersed in the entertainment world. Thanks!

  4. Seem nice! Kind of fast pace but still don’t get any sign of the ML. I mean not only the ML in the memory but in the present time. Oh! the ex-crush is the ML right? haha i just guess.

  5. Well, do what you want. But I don’t like “return of first love” stories very much. I do like stories where people work and enjoy their careers, though, so I imagine I’ll lurk around the edges. Was that enough of a double-edged comment for you?

  6. Is it possible for me to reject any story the combination of Peanuts and Hoju translate?
    Correct answer: of course NOT
I’m definitely in….thanks thanks…..looking forward to next chapter.

  7. I get the feeling its from someone you I know. Hehehe. But nevertheless if its your team that is translating, I am all in!

  8. Ooooo I’m intrigued. I definitely want to read more!

  9. Awesome thanks!

  10. Sounds very intriguing. Hope you decide to continue. Thank you for sharing this story!

  11. interesting…enough for me to want to know the backstory. CONTINUE

  12. Very interesting, the lines are good too. Please continue 😀

  13. Woaaa i like this novel. Very much ? Too much things that makes me interested.

    Thank you 😊

  14. thank you Peanuts!

  15. Please continue.. 🙂

Kekeke… the clues given helped me guessed who the author is. So … yes, I found the Chinese novel and read up to its latest. But, I will still very much like to read your translation and will definitely wait patiently with you for the author to finish the story.

I can read Chinese novels rather effortlessly (sometimes half-guessing the meaning of the words/phrases). So, I enjoy reading your translation as it helps me to appreciate the story better. Not only you and Hoju have translated the authors’ works beautifully, the research you have done to provide a better contextual meaning to the non-Chinese readers.

So, thank you for your love of translation and willingness to share.

    Merry Christmas!

    A silent reader

  16. Read, voted and I’m so in.
I’m a sucker for love lost and first love. Can’t wait to hear the result of the vote!

Merry Christmas, Peanut! And to Hoju too!

  17. Count me in! I am a sucker for this kind of romance.

  18. Ahh, going by the hints, it must mean that this novel is pretty long, or longer than normal…? I enjoyed the first chapter a lot.

    Thank you!!

  19. Thanks for translating this (I just saw this now!). This is becoming my new favourite story…can’t wait to have more people to discuss!

  20. Just finished reading your translations – thanks for putting so much thought into your translations and doing it justice. When i read the first chapter in chinese i had trouble understanding what her fans posted on her weibo to protect her (the 211 etc) – thanks for clarifying the details!

  21. Hi) I’ll be waiting for the next chapter!

  22. Going by the first comment and Peanuts clues… is this a novel written by the turtle author? 😁Then that is a long loooong wait for the ending. 😢 Love her works though and this one seems really interesting just wish it’s a completed novel.

    Happy New Year!

  23. Pretty pretty pleaseeee continue… Im in. Well i need tp go back to hoju’s project first lols.. I missed it so bad. And i miss reading your translation peanuts.

I read your explanation above and sure.. I understand it very well. So take your time and we’ll wait. Fighting!!!

    Thank you ^^

  24. I’m curious what the verdict will be! Is this going to be a new project?

  25. Please can you be so kind to tell us how many chapters Gu Man plans on releasing. I just checked and realised, it’s still going Lol!

  26. 𝕿𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖐𝖘 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖕𝖙𝖊𝖗.
